Eagles make major coaching staff change
While Nick Sirianni appears to have survived with his job intact, one of his coordinators won’t be as lucky.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday that the Eagles have let go of defensive coordinator Sean Desai. Rapoport notes that Desai will now be in the mix for DC jobs elsewhere.
The writing may have been on the wall for Desai, who was hired less than a year ago to replace Jonathan Gannon as Philadelphia’s DC. He was quietly demoted by the team before Week 15 with defensive assistant Matt Patricia taking over the playcalling duties through the end of the season instead. A report would then emerge that Desai was supposedly having trouble getting the players to buy into his schemes.
Granted, the Eagles did not fare much better after demoting Desai, losing three of their next four games to finish the regular season and then falling on their faces in the Wild Card round against Tampa Bay. But with all signs seemingly pointing to Philly retaining their head coach Sirianni, it seems that somebody there had to take the blame.
