Report: Eagles want more than second-round pick for Sam Bradford
If an NFL team wants to grant Sam Bradford’s wish by prying him away from the Philadelphia Eagles, that team is going to have to pay a steep price.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter told 97.5 The Fanatic on Tuesday that the Eagles would be looking for more than a second-round pick in any potential trade for Bradford.
“I think that they’ll get inquiries,” Schefter said, as transcribed by Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. “The whole thing is, what is somebody willing to pay? Philadelphia valued him at a very high number. They paid him $22 million in guaranteed money. If you go back and look at other quarterback trades, Alex Smith went for two second-round picks. Is he Alex Smith? I don’t think he’s been as productive as Alex Smith. He has not taken a team to the playoffs the way Alex Smith is.”
Even if a team is willing to part with a second-round pick for a quarterback who has been extremely mediocre and injury prone throughout his career, Schefter doesn’t think it would be enough.
“Let’s say that he’s worth one No. 2 pick. Is there a team that’s willing to part with a second rounder? Then, will Philadelphia be willing to move him for a two? I don’t think the Eagles would, to be honest with you,” he said. “I think it’s going to take more than that.”
While Bradford has apparently vowed to not show up to offseason workouts, the Eagles have committed to him as their starting quarterback. He doesn’t really have much leverage.
From the Eagles standpoint, their quarterback situation sets up perfectly. They signed Bradford to a two-year extension this offseason and are planning to draft a QB with the No. 2 overall pick. Bradford’s contract sets him up perfectly to bridge the gap, though you can understand why he doesn’t want that.
