Eddie Lacy plans to continue with P90X workouts during offseason
Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy has been unable to take part in much physical activity since he underwent ankle surgery earlier this season, but he will once again look to shed any extra weight he gains with the help of Tony Horton this offseason.
Lacy assured Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com on Tuesday that he will be ready for the start of the 2017 season. He also said he is planning to stick to the same training schedule during the summer, which includes P90X workouts.
“I’ll definitely be ready,” Lacy said. “I don’t know when it is, but definitely I’ll be able to start training in the offseason and running on a scheduled program.”
After his weight became a constant topic of discussion last year, Lacy got off to a fast start in 2016 and was averaging 5.1 yards per carry through five games. He expects to show up to training camp — wherever that may be — in the same type of condition.
“I was just more explosive, a little more agile, a little quicker, and guys didn’t want tackle me, I guess you could say,” Lacy said. “Sometimes you just know, like you just feel it. And to be able to have that thought and have that feeling and you can go out and see it happening, it was one of the best feelings ever. I was coming off of a not-so-good year, and to be able to start off the way I did was amazing. For it to end the way it did was not ideal.”
Lacy’s contract is up with the Packers at the end of the season, but Demovsky speculates that the injury could make it easier for Green Bay to re-sign the 26-year-old on a one-year “prove it” deal. While there were rumblings that Lacy had started hitting the cheeseburgers again before he got hurt, he has never been a slim guy. The injury may have cost him some money, but Lacy should have no problem finding work.
