Eminem tweet could lead to AAF team in Detroit

Eminem ESPN interview

A tweet sent by Eminem on Monday night may actually end up having a significant impact.

The Detroit-born rapper sent a tweet earlier in the week advocating fighting being allowed in the AAF to increase fan interest. His tweet, which received a response from Johnny Manziel, also indicated he had interest in Detroit being awarded a team in the league.

Ask and ye shall receive (interest, at least).

Eminem’s tweet sparked high-level conversations within the AAF and between the league and the rapper’s team, according to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett. League co-founder Charlie Ebersol told Birkett they would welcome Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) if he has true interest in being involved in the league.

“We’re going to start discussions,” Ebersol told the Free Press. “Obviously, we’d like to get through the end of the season and come up for air a little bit and assess our position, but if Marshall wanted to get involved in the league today, we would definitely make that happen very quickly.”

Imagine if a simple tweet leads to Detroit getting a franchise and/or Eminem being involved in the league? The idea seems wild, but that’s the exact type of publicity a start-up league is looking for, especially when they’ve had some issues.
