Report: Evan Engram a target for AFC playoff team

The New York Giants are making several roster changes this offseason entering their first year of the Joe Schoen-Brian Daboll era. They have cut several players to help get under the salary cap. They are losing Evan Engram in free agency, and one AFC playoff team may have interest in him.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan wrote a lengthy column on the Giants Thursday that contained tons of information, such as the team’s expected pursuit of Mitch Trubisky. Also in the column, Duggan said that Engram is likely to be out of the Giants’ price range. He further reported that the Buffalo Bills could be a top suitor for Engram.

Engram was a first-round pick by the Giants in 2017 and topped out with 64 catches for 722 yards and 6 touchdowns as a rookie. But he struggled with drops and never fully reached his potential with them. Perhaps Buffalo could maximize his talent as he would be a target for Josh Allen.

The Bills have tight end Dawson Knox under contract through 2022, and he was one of Allen’s favorites last season. Perhaps signing Engram would provide some insurance if Knox were to eventually leave in free agency.

It’s unclear whether Engram is looking for a one-year prove-it deal or to get paid on a long-term contract.
