Fans all said the same thing about Drew Allar during preseason opener

Drew Allar already looks like an early winner of the NFL preseason.

The Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Allar had an impressive preseason debut on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. During the game at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa., Allar went 10/13 for 153 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Allar showed off some great poise on his throws, including a 74-yard completion in the early going and a dart to fullback Riley Nowakowski for a touchdown to cap off the fourth quarter. He also added a three-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter as Pittsburgh coasted to a 28-9 victory over Green Bay.

Allar’s strong outing led to everybody on social media saying the same thing. They joked that Allar’s former college head coach James Franklin had been holding him back.

For the 22-year-old Allar, his college career was up and down to say the least. He spent four years at Penn State but was prone to bad, inopportune interceptions and also produced some real duds against tougher competition.

That said, Franklin was the head coach at Penn State for almost the entire college career of Allar. Franklin certainly came with some coaching flaws of his own, and now some fans believe Franklin may have acted to the detriment of Allar’s development.
