The NFL Draft is complete and there already is a heavy favorite to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
BetOnline.ag has posted the odds for who will win both the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Ashton Jeanty, who went No. 6 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, is favored to win the offensive award.
Jeanty is favored with odds a little better than 2/1. Behind him in the odds are Cam Ward, who went No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans. Then it’s Travis Hunter, Tetairoa McMillan, Omarion Hampton, Matthew Golden and TreVeyon Henderson. Those are the only players with odds of 20/1 or lower to win the award.
Ashton Jeanty 7/4
Cameron Ward 2/1
Travis Hunter 7/1
Tetairoa McMillan 11/1
Omarion Hampton 12/1
Matthew Golden 18/1
TreVeyon Henderson 20/1
Typically, it’s a player who amasses statistics at a skill position who wins an award like that. That’s why the list has wide receivers and running backs on it, plus Ward — a quarterback.
For Defensive Player of the Year, the same oddsmaker has Abdul Carter favored at 2/1. Hunter is next at 5/1.
What’s super impresisve is that Hunter is among the favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year or Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to take him No. 2 overall and have plans to utilize him on both sides of the ball.
Jeanty being favored to win Offensive Rookie of the Year makes plenty of sense. He was drafted highly and regarded well as a prospect. He’s coming off a big season at Boise State that saw him gain 2,601 rushing yards. The Raiders have also brought in Geno Smith and have a coach in Pete Carroll who likes to control the ball with the ground game. Everything points to Jeanty having a good statistical season for the Raiders, or at least having the opportunity to produce.
