Frank Gore’s return made Darren Sproles want to come out of retirement
Frank Gore and Darren Sproles were the last two running backs standing from the 2005 draft class. While Sproles retired at the end of the 2019 season, Gore is still going strong, making Sproles reconsider his choice.
Sproles followed Gore’s decision closely, and when Gore joined the New York Jets, Sproles joked that he wanted to play, too.
“I’m telling you this, the way Frank is still going right now makes me want to go again!” Sproles texted NFL.com’s Jim Trotter. “We’re both the Class of 2005 and we both wanted to outlast the backs from our class that went before us.”
Sproles clarified that he was not serious and had no plans to come out of retirement for another season.
Gore turns 37 this month, and just signed on for his 16th NFL season. You can see how that would motivate someone who considered themselves a friendly rival. At this point, it’s just a question of how long Gore can go. You wouldn’t want to bet against him.
