Wide receiver Calvin Austin might end up not suiting up for a single game with the New York Giants.
Austin, signed by the Giants to a 1-year, $1.5 million contract in March, suffered an apparent serious lower-body injury during practice on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Austin will be sidelined for the entire 2026 campaign after he was diagnosed with a torn ACL.
It is a brutal development for Austin, who will now endure another long journey to recovery.
After being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Memphis Tigers football product suffered a foot injury in the offseason, which he later aggravated, causing him to sit out his entire rookie campaign.
During his stint with the Steelers, the 27-year-old Austin amassed 1,100 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 84 receptions and 143 targets through 48 games. Many expected the Giants to give him a larger role in 2026 following the departure of Wandale Robison, who signed with the Tennessee Titans in the offseason.
Austin’s injury could also bode well for Odell Beckham Jr.’s chances of making the final roster cut. Braxton Berrios is also a stronger candidate now to win over the starting slot receiver role for New York, which is entering its first season under the watch of head coach John Harbaugh.
