Giants to meet with Jason Pierre-Paul Wednesday to look at injured hand
Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul still has yet to return to action ever since his freak July 4th fireworks accident that left his right hand severely mangled. Now the team is looking to re-evaluate just how much longer the injury will keep Pierre-Paul out of commission.
According to a report on Tuesday by Dan Graziano of ESPN, the two-time Pro Bowler is set to meet with Giants team officials on Wednesday in New Jersey, presumably so that his injured hand can be looked at and a timetable for a return can be assessed.
It’s the second time that Pierre-Paul will meet with the Giants since the accident occurred, with the first meeting in September being a discouraging one where the team found out that Pierre-Paul’s hand was in worse shape than they were lead to believe.
At the time, there was serious doubt that the 26-year-old pass rusher would be able to play at all this season. But since then, optimism has grown with Pierre-Paul sharing multiple workout videos to social media and reports emerging that the Giants are hopeful JPP could be back for the final four games of the season.
Pierre-Paul himself has brushed off the seriousness of the injury. But with his index finger having to be amputated, a portion of his thumb missing, and other parts of his hand having to undergo skin grafts (not to mention the recently-released images of his hand), the injury is no light matter.
With their heads barely above water at 3-3 on the year and a defense that ranks 28th in sacks and 31st in passing yards allowed, the Giants are eager for Pierre-Paul to return. But it’s anyone’s guess at this point as to when he will be ready. Hopefully, Wednesday’s meeting provides some clarity.
