Greg Schiano shockingly resigns as Patriots defensive coordinator

Greg Schiano

Greg Schiano has given us some shocking news this offseason.

Schiano announced on Thursday that he is stepping down as defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, a position he held for a month.

“I have informed Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick that I am stepping down from my position at the Patriots. This is not the result of any one event, but rather a realization that I need to spend more time on my faith and family. I don’t want to look back years from now and wish I had done things differently. Therefore, I am taking time away from the game to recalibrate my priorities,” Schiano said in a statement.

“I respect Coach Schiano greatly and appreciate his contributions to our staff and team. He is a friend who we support completely,” Bill Belichick said.

The news will lead to immediate questions about what led to this abrupt decision, but it’s not the first time Schiano has been part of a controversy. He had agreed to become Tennessee’s head coach before the fan’s protested so hard that the deal was scuttled. He returned to Ohio State before leaving to pursue the Patriots job after Brian Flores’ hiring by the Dolphins.

One thing that stood out to us recently was one of the Patriots’ recent defensive acquisitions had a negative history with the coach.
