A disgraced former NFL player is training for a comeback while still in prison, according to one of his former teammates.

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III wants another shot in the NFL and has continued to train while in prison for a fatal DUI case. Ruggs’ former teammate Josh Jacobs revealed on “The Pivot Podcast” that he remains in contact with the former wide receiver and his family.

“He’s training. They let him train and things like that,” Jacobs said of Ruggs. “So I’m like, ‘When you come out, man, I don’t know if you will get a chance.’ I’ve been talking to some people for him. They’ve been saying a couple of teams are willing to give him a chance.

“I’m like, ‘When you get that chance, man, you better not ever, don’t look back, and prove to yourself and prove to everybody that one decision don’t define you and who you are as a man.'”

The Raiders selected Ruggs 12th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. During his second NFL season, he was involved in a car accident that killed a woman and her dog. Ruggs’ blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit at the time of the crash, and he was reported to have been going over 150 MPH seconds before the accident.

Ruggs ultimately accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison as a result of the crash. He will first be eligible for parole in August 2026, at which point he will be 27 years old.
