The Jacksonville Jaguars struggled on offense in the first half against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, and Liam Coen was widely criticized for a conservative decision he made in the Week 7 game.
The Jaguars were trailing 14-0 and had 4th-and-3 in Rams territory midway through the second quarter at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Rather than going for it on 4th-and-short from the L.A. 32-yard line, Coen decided to have kicker Cam Little attempt a 50-yard field goal.
Coen wanted to give his stagnant offense a chance to come away with points in a half where not much had gone right. The plan did not work out, as Little missed the kick wide left.

Many fans felt Coen should have gone for it on 4th-and-3, especially with the Jaguars trailing 14-0.

To make matters worse, the Rams scored a touchdown to go up 21-0 on their ensuing drive. The Jaguars put together a nice drive after that and got the ball to the L.A. 11-yard line, and Coen decided to go for it on 4th-and-7. Trevor Lawrence tried to run for the first down and was stopped short.
Coen was credited with helping to revive Baker Mayfield’s career as the offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The hope was that he would have a similar impact in Jacksonville, but the first 30 minutes of Sunday’s game could not have gone much worse for his offense.
