Top Michigan assistant set to follow Jim Harbaugh to Chargers
One of Jim Harbaugh’s top assistants at Michigan is set to follow him to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter told several Wolverines defensive players that he is following Harbaugh to Los Angeles, according to Sam Webb of 247 Sports. Minter has been Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator at Michigan since 2022.
Minter was quickly mentioned as one of the coaches that could possibly follow Harbaugh to the NFL, so this is not a massive surprise. He has won high praise for his work with the Michigan defense since his arrival, with the unit forming the backbone of this year’s championship-winning team. This will not be his first NFL job, as he spent time with the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach from 2017 to 2020.
Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore will obviously be staying, having been promoted to head coach to replace Harbaugh. How he replaces Minter on his staff will be one of his first major decisions.
