Jets make unusual roster decision with Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers has all but confirmed that he will not play in another game this season, but the New York Jets are not officially shutting him down for the year.
Rodgers admitted on Thursday that his Achilles injury is not 100% healed and said there is no sense in him trying to play while the Jets are eliminated from postseason contention. Wednesday marked the deadline for the Jets to activate Rodgers from injured reserve, as the quarterback’s 21-day practice window was opened on Nov. 29.
Though he is not going to play in any of New York’s final three games, Rodgers has been activated to the 53-man roster. Head coach Robert Saleh said on Wednesday that the move will allow Rodgers to continue to practice with the team as part of his Achilles rehab.

Saleh said the Jets have the roster flexibility to allows them to keep Rodgers active even though the 40-year-old is not going to play. If the team had a chance at making the playoffs, the decision probably would have been a more difficult one.
Rodgers also spoke this week about how he views his career heading into 2024 and beyond, and what he said should make Jets fans feel better about the team’s disappointing year.
