John Elway gets new five-year deal from Broncos

John Elway

The Denver Broncos are keeping their leader atop the franchise — and paying good money to do so.

The Broncos and John Elway have agreed to a five-year deal that keeps the GM with the team through 2021. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the deal is expected to make Elway the highest-paid GM in the league.

Elway has held his position since 2011 and helped turned the Broncos back into one of the best teams in the NFL. One of his first items of business was signing Peyton Manning ahead of the 2012 season, which produced two Super Bowl appearances and one championship. Elway has also helped build the team’s defense into one of the most dominant in the league.

The Broncos have made the playoffs in five of their six years under Elway’s watch, including going 50-14 over a four-year stretch.
