Johnny Manziel was fined for missing treatment, Browns unsure where he was
The Cleveland Browns confirmed on Thursday that Johnny Manziel missed an injury treatment on the final day of the regular season, and the team has no idea where he was.
Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said Manziel was fined after showing up late to the facility and that the team will sit down for a discussion with him in the future.
“I don’t know where Johnny was the final game of the season,” Brown said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I do know he was late for his treatment and he was fined for that, the missed treatment for his concussion protocol.”
Of course, there are rumors that Manziel tossed on a disguise and hit Las Vegas the night before the Browns played their final game of the season. Brown could not refute that Manziel was in Vegas.
“It’s a fair question,” he said. “What we’re focused on is he missed his rehab time. Our focus largely has been on moving this organization forward and a piece of that would be Johnny, but that won’t be all of it. And so immediately after the season we got into a mode where we focused on the head coach, and we will sit down and have discussions with Johnny at the appropriate time.”
Brown added that the team is not going to “panic” and make a quick decision about Manziel, but some of the things new head coach Hue Jackson has said make it seem like he wants no part of Johnny Football.
It goes without saying that this has become a pattern of behavior for Manziel. He also missed injury treatment toward the end of the 2014 season, and the Browns supposedly had to go searching for him. The rumors about why Manziel missed that treatment were very similar, and you can read more about that here.
With a new head coach now in place, it would be somewhat of a surprise if Manziel sticks around.
