Johnny Manziel might inadvertently be helping the Cleveland Browns build a new stadium.
The Browns have received approval to begin construction of a new football stadium, and the state of Ohio will contribute $600 million of the cost. That money, according to John Breech of CBS Sports, will be taken from the state’s pot of unclaimed funds, which consists of money stored in dormant bank accounts or from uncashed checks, among other things.
As it turns out, the fund includes some of Manziel’s money. Manziel has over $100 in unclaimed funds from NFL Players Inc., the marketing arm of the NFLPA.

In other words, there is a chance some money earmarked for Manziel could actually be used to build the Browns a new stadium. There is a delicious irony to that considering how infamously poorly his tenure with the organization went.
Manziel was drafted in 2014 and spent two seasons with the Browns. He has not played in the NFL since 2015, going just 2-6 as a starter.
There has been some chatter that Manziel might try to play in the NFL again, but that won’t be happening. Either way, Browns fans might be able to joke that his legacy and his cash helped bring the team a new stadium.
