Attorney David Cornwell shared on Twitter what he says was the “I will murder your whole” family text message Jonathan Martin sent to Richie Incognito, and it turns out the text was a photo-based meme rather than typed out words.

During his sit-down interview with FOX’s Jay Glazer, Incognito said Martin texted him that he was going to murder his whole family, but he knew that was in jest. He said that’s the way they communicated.
“A week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my phone, I will murder your whole effing family. Now, did I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder by family? Not one bit.
“He texted me that. I didn’t think he was going to kill my family. I knew it was coming from a brother. I knew it was coming from a friend. I knew it was coming from a teammate. That just puts into context how we communicate with one another.”
Of course Incognito didn’t take it seriously because if you look at the photo, you’ll know it’s a joke, not a threat.
As Cornwell showed us, sometimes things can be much different from how they appear on the surface. And that’s probably the case with Incognito, whose reported actions have lost context at times.
