Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner remains unconvinced of Bryce Young’s abilities. The Carolina Panthers quarterback drew a blunt assessment from Warner on Sunday, regarding the former Alabama Crimson Tide star’s play in the pocket.
“I know #BryceYoung has come a long way from his rookie year but until he cleans up his feet in the pocket & learns to set strong & ready at top of drop, it will be really hard to take that next step!” Warner wrote in a post on X.
“It causes him to be late & miss a lot of throws & with his limited arm strength, playing late is not a winning proposition a lot of the time!”
Warner’s take came on the heels of the Panthers’ 16-14 loss to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
Young threw two touchdowns in that game, but he had a bad throw late in the second quarter that got picked off by rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish.
The 24-year-old Young has shown clear improvements in his third season in the NFL. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft posted career highs in passing yards (3,011), touchdown passes (23) and pass completion rate (63.6%), but there are still issues he needs to clean up to further unlock the potential of Carolina’s offense under Dave Canales.
