Kyler Murray explains why he felt ‘weird’ about his Week 4 performance

The Arizona Cardinals were blown out by the Washington Commanders in Week 4, but that alone was not why quarterback Kyler Murray was left feeling highly dissatisfied with his performance.

Murray acknowledged this week that he only ran the ball once, a 3-yard scramble that happened on the first drive of the game. The lone attempt tied a career low for Murray, and he admitted that it left a weird taste in his mouth.

“I feel when I have 3 yards and one rush, yeah I feel a little weird about it,” Murray admitted, via Darren Urban of the team’s official website. “That’s sometimes how the game plays.

“When I’m running, it just happens. It’s not something I can go out there and force, which I could. When you see me take off it’s the natural flow of the game. But I believe it does open things up.”

Murray’s mobility probably would not have ever made much of a difference in what turned into a 42-14 defeat, but it is clear the Arizona offense is still working some things out. Murray’s legs have been a key part of what they’ve done, as he has 164 yards on 16 carries for the season.

Some would argue Murray could have done a bit more with his arm at times this year. The team’s 1-3 start is not entirely his doing, but it probably would not be a bad thing if he ran a bit more to keep defenses honest.
