The San Diego Chargers will be without their most dangerous offensive weapon when they take on the Oakland Raiders Sunday, as Melvin Gordon is not expected to play.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Gordon is likely not going to suit up, though he could still return before the end of the season.
Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip) is not expected to play Sunday vs. Raiders, per source. Remains a chance Gordon will play again this season.

Gordon was carted off the field last weekend after suffering a hip injury, and Chargers coach Mike McCoy later revealed that the former Wisconsin star is also battling knee trouble. Gordon is just three yards shy of 1,000 yards rushing for the season, and he reportedly wants to play. But with the Chargers all but eliminated from playoff contention, there is no reason to risk rushing him back.
Prior to going down, Gordon was enjoying a breakout season. He has 997 yards rushing, more than 1,400 total yards from scrimmage and 12 total touchdowns.
