Micah Parsons has mixed feelings about the Dallas Cowboys moving on from head coach Mike McCarthy.

The Cowboys’ denial of one NFC team’s request to interview McCarthy had some speculating about his possible return. But the team formally announced Monday that McCarthy was not coming back for a sixth season in Dallas.

Parsons went on his “The Edge” podcast on Tuesday to share his honest thoughts on the move.

“It is devastating,” said Parsons. “Coach Mike’s a great father, coach, one of the most winningest coaches. … Losing a great coach like Mike hurts. … It’s going to be a complete reset.”

Parsons added that he still puts his “full trust” in the Cowboys’ leadership group to make the right decision on the team’s next head coach.

McCarthy has been the Cowboys’ head coach ever since Parsons came into the league in 2021. The two have cultivated a strong relationship over the years, but there have been a few bumps along the way. Parsons made waves when gave some harsh comments about McCarthy in November.

There have also been questions about Parsons’ own future with the team. Parsons, who has one year left on his rookie contract, will seek out a contract extension this offseason.

As a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Parsons is certainly the type of player the Cowboys should want to keep. But given how much money the team has tied up to existing contracts, Parsons’ return is not a foregone conclusion.
