Michael Bennett: Panthers are like our hot cousin
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett is heading into Saturday’s divisional round playoff game with a great deal of respect for his opponent — we think.
On Wednesday, Bennett told reporters that the Seahawks and Carolina Panthers have a lot in common. That was obviously a compliment.
“It’s kind of weird playing them, because it’s almost like you’re looking in the mirror,” Bennett said, per John Boyle of The Everett Herald. “It’s a team that has similar attributes all over, similar qualities — both quarterbacks are both mobile, big receivers — well we don’t have any big receivers, but we have big-hearted receivers — powerful running backs, great defensive lines and linebacker play. So it’s a good game.”
Bennett then took it a step further, and that’s when things got a bit weird.
“It’s so much alike, man,” he said. “It’s like you look at a girl who looks like you, and you find out it’s your cousin, so you can’t go on a date with her even though you’d like to, because she looks like you. But then you see her friend, and her friend’s really hot, and you’re like, ‘that’s not my cousin,’ so it’s good.”
As Boyle noted, it’s unclear who exactly the hot friend would be in this situation. I don’t think there is one, because it sounds to me like Bennett just got a little too caught up in his metaphor.
Bottom line — Bennett knows the Panthers present a challenge for Seattle. But given what he recently said about his team’s defense, I doubt he is overly concerned.
