Michael Vick has worn No. 7 throughout his entire collegiate and NFL career. His clothing line, V7, was built around his jersey number. When Vick signed with the New York Jets, it quickly became obvious that he would have to choose a new number for the first time in his 11-year NFL career. That number is 8.
On Sunday evening, Vick posted a photo of himself on Instagram wearing a No. 8 Jets jersey.
“I want to see everybody in there MV8 jerseys this year,” he wrote. “I appreciate all the fans that helped. Fresh start..new me! #JetsNation #GangGreen #V8”
As most of you know, Geno Smith wears No. 7 for the Jets. Vick looks awkward wearing 8, but we’ll get used to it. I’d say people might confuse Vick with Steve Young while he’s running around wearing No. 8 throwing passes left-handed, but Young typically threw to his own players. Vick has more of a tendency to throw to the other team.
