Mike Evans has high praise for ‘franchise changer’ Tom Brady

Mike Evans enjoyed a great deal of success catching passes from Jameis Winston for the past five seasons, and there have been questions about whether a 43-year-old Tom Brady will work well with a dominant deep threat like Evans. Clearly, the star receiver is not concerned about that.

Evans and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy chatted about the upcoming season in an Instagram live session over the weekend, and Evans had nothing but positive things to say about Winston. He said he loves Jameis like a brother, but he gushed over the potential of Brady to be a “franchise changer.”

“Obviously, I wanted Jameis back because that’s my bro. The opportunity to get Tom Brady. Like, that’s Tom Brady, bro. Like that’s the greatest of all-time. He’s franchise changer,” Evans said, as transcribed by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Like he’s about to change the franchise. Like, ticket sales are going through the roof. Like prime time games. And he understands the game of football (like) nobody else understands that level besides the greats and it’s going to be great to work with him, you understand what I’m saying.”

Evans also said he is excited about the addition of Rob Gronkowski.

“The young receiving corps we got, the tight ends we’ve got, we’ve got Gronk coming in … it’s going to be great for the city,” he added. “And it’s going to be just great overall. Hopefully we have a great season, everybody stays healthy and it pans out the way we want.”

Brady’s skill set might be better suited for a receiver like Chris Godwin, especially at this point in the six-time Super Bowl champion’s career. That said, Brady and Bucs coach Bruce Arians will find plenty of ways to get Evans the ball.

Evans already showed how excited he was about the Brady signing while streaming live playing video games, and you can understand why he’s so geeked. For the first time in Evans’ career, he’s part of a team that could contend for a Super Bowl.
