Mike McCarthy: Eddie Lacy needs to lose weight
Mike McCarthy feels Eddie Lacy was too heavy this season and that the running back needs to lose weight entering next season.
The Green Bay Packers head coach talked about his running back at a news conference Monday, less than two days after his team’s season came to an end in the playoffs.
“He’s got a lot of work to do,” McCarthy said of Lacy, via ESPN. “His offseason last year was not good enough and he never recovered from it. He cannot play at the weight he played at this year.”
Lacy rushed for over 1,100 yards in each of his first two seasons in the league, but he had a big dropoff in carries and yardage this season. His 758 yards, 187 attempts and three touchdowns were all career-low marks.
Lacy battled injuries including one to his groin, and he had issues off the field. He had to be benched after missing curfew prior to the Packers’ November game in Detroit.
Lacy is listed at 234 pounds, but anyone watching can tell that he is heavier than that. He better take his offseason conditioning seriously if he wants to last in the league, otherwise he won’t have a ton of longevity. Maybe as punishment McCarthy might want to take this shirt away from the running back.
