Mike Vick on Chargers game: Maybe I didn’t prepare or wasn’t prepared
Whether it was Mike Vick or Geno Smith, the New York Jets’ quarterbacks struggled in a 31-0 loss at San Diego last weekend.
Smith went 4/12 for 27 yards and an interception and was benched at halftime. Vick wasn’t much better, going 8/19 for 47 yards. At least he rushed for 14 yards.
On Wednesday, Vick told reporters that his struggles were perhaps due to poor preparation.
“Maybe I didn’t prepare or I wasn’t prepared, but I’ll tell you what, it won’t happen again,” Vick said according to the New York Daily News.
“I learned a lesson last week: always stay ready, always be prepared,” Vick said. “That left a bitter taste in my mouth that I wasn’t able to go out and put points on the board or even help this team in any fashion. So this week has been a different work week from me (and) throughout the rest of the year, it’s going to be totally different for me as far as my preparation.”

Jets head coach Rex Ryan has already said that Smith will resume his starting duties in Week 6, but Vick says he won’t be unprepared next time he’s called upon to lead the team. Vick had previously been used in spot situations running the “wildcat” offense. He attempted one pass in Week 1 and rushed for three yards in Week 3. Vick also split practice reps with Matt Simms last week, but says regardless of his practice reps, he’ll be more prepared in the future.
