Nate Burleson Guarantees Victory for Detroit Lions over Bears

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get tired of players guaranteeing victory, especially when they don’t deliver. That goes for Neftali Feliz, Brandon Marshall, and some unknown player for Pittsburgh. We can add Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson to the list.

Apparently Burleson added a guarantee to the end of his radio show and was asked to categorize his statement on Thursday. “Did I or did I not guarantee a win? How should I answer this? This is what I said – ‘We will win on Sunday.’ That’s what I said at the end of my (radio) show. You can take it as a guarantee, Chicago can take it as a guarantee, they can take it however they want. At the end of the day, they know what our intentions are when they come in to Detroit. I’m not trying to stir up anything, but we play to win the game, we want to try to win on Sunday and we think we’ve got a chance to win.”

Well, there’s a big difference between having a chance to win and trying to win, and actually winning. Now we’re just starting to confuse intending to win with actually guaranteeing victory. That’s no foreign issue for Burleson who “guaranteed” a win over the Arizona Cardinals last year while he was with the Seahawks. The Cardinals went 10-6 and swept Seattle. With Drew Stanton starting at quarterback, I’ll firmly disagree with Burleson’s guarantee once again.
