Odell Beckham Jr. called for the NFL to take action after New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a serious knee injury in Week 4.
The second-year wideout hurt his knee while trying to make a diving catch in the second quarter of Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Nabers was in serious pain as he grabbed his right leg (video here). The Giants are reportedly concerned that the injury is a torn ACL.
After the game, Beckham took to social media to call for the NFL to make a change. The former Giants star demanded that the league “get rid” of the artificial turf used at MetLife Stadium.
“Dear NFL, I mean this with the upmost [sic] love and respect,” Beckham wrote in a two-part post. “We (The NFL) take all The precautions in the world with EVERYthing else when it comes to players ‘health’ and ‘safety.’ PLZ. PLZ. PLZ. GET RID OF THE TURF. Thank You in advance. LUV

The artificial turf shared by both the New York Jets and the Giants at MetLife Stadium has developed a reputation for being unsafe compared to natural grass fields.
Aaron Rodgers infamously tore his Achilles tendon on the MetLife turf just four plays into his Jets career. Over the past few years, several other NFL players have suffered serious leg injuries while playing on New York’s turf. Former Jets players have even expressed fear in returning to play at MetLife Stadium.
It remains unclear if serious injuries occur more often in MetLife Stadium than in other stadiums across the league. However, Sunday’s injury to Nabers won’t deter calls for the NFL to investigate the matter.
