Report: Packers coaches ‘incensed’ team let TJ Lang leave

The Green Bay Packers lost one of the anchors of their offensive line in free agency, and apparently some members of their organization are not happy about it.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, some Packers coaches were “incensed” that the team let Lang go, particularly how it went down.

As their organization typically does, they opened with a low-ball offer after Lang underwent surgery in January. The offer offended the lineman, but despite this, he gave them the opportunity to look at his surgically-repaired hip just before he hit the open market. The Packers upped their offer, but refused to go any further than $8 million a year, while the Detroit Lions, Lang’s hometown team, ultimately offered $9.5 million per year.

McGinn believes that Packers players were paying attention to the relative lack of trust and loyalty the team afforded Lang, and it could have long-term implications.

The Packers have long been somewhat thrifty with regards to contracts, which has reportedly caused issues within the organization. Their policies may ultimately be costing them players — and in reputation.
