Packers’ Jerron McMillian has not gotten a haircut in more than seven years

A lot of players in the NFL like to rock the long hair look — particularly defenders. While offensive players are welcome to sport it as well, it’s a little more risky since it is part of the uniform and something defenders can grab onto to bring them down. Oftentimes we will see a running back get taken down by his dreads and wonder why he doesn’t just get a haircut. As Packers rookie safety Jerron McMillian recently revealed, growing long locks takes years of hard work and dedication.

“It’s been seven years and counting,” McMillian said when asked about his hair according to FoxSports Wisconsin. “I don’t know if it’s the longest in the NFL, but it’s past the middle of my lower back.”

McMillian knows the flowing dreads give opponents something to grab at if he makes an interception and is being chased from behind. Despite, that, he still can’t bring himself to do away with them.

“Many times on many occasions,” he said. “It sucks when it happens, but after a while you get used to it. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt. Sometimes you don’t realize it until later on (watching film) that he grabbed my hair. Sometimes, I’ll go to tackle somebody or they’ll try to block me, then they try to grab my jersey or my hair. But I don’t mind it.”

From the sound of it, McMillian has no intention of following in the footsteps of his new teammate A.J. Hawk and chopping off his hair. There’s no guarantee he won’t change his mind after a few seasons of running with the big boys.
