The Green Bay Packers have placed quarterback Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve.
The team confirmed the roster move on Friday, ensuring that the quarterback will miss at least the next eight weeks after breaking his collarbone on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The earliest Rodgers could possibly return would be Week 15 for the team’s Dec. 17 game at the Carolina Panthers. That, of course, does not guarantee that he’ll even see the field again in 2017 — there is at least some muted optimism that he might play again this year, but that depends on a lot of variables. Even if he can return for the last game or two, the Packers likely wouldn’t force it if they find themselves out of the playoff hunt early.
