Pete Carroll wanted 1 NFL job after Seahawks demotion

Pete Carroll has said he is open to coaching next season after the Seattle Seahawks pushed him out, and there may be one NFL job at the top of his wish list.

According to legendary rapper Snoop Dogg, Carroll wants to coach the Los Angeles Chargers. Snoop, who became friends with Carroll when Carroll was at USC, shared some inside information with reporters on Monday during a media roundtable to promote his upcoming football movie, “The Underdoggs.”

Snoop said he called Carroll immediately after the Seahawks announced that the 72-year-old is transitioning to an advisory role with the organization. Carroll was already thinking about where he wanted to coach next, which was apparently L.A.

“His spirits were up high and he was looking forward to another team calling him,” Snoop said, via Martin Rogers of FOX Sports. “That’s what coaches do, they don’t go, ‘Oh man, they fired me, I’m going to lose my mind.’ [It’s] ‘Nah, who is the next team in town, I would love to coach there. Oh, they got a great quarterback, they need this.’ That’s what we do as coaches.

“He wanted to go to the (Los Angeles) Chargers. That’s what he wanted. But I don’t know if they want him.”

Carroll openly said he wanted to keep his job with the Seahawks, but he ultimately went along with what ownership felt was best. He has also made it fairly clear that his preference is to keep coaching.

Obviously, Carroll’s age is working against him. He still has plenty of energy left and led the Seahawks to consecutive 9-8 seasons after trading Russell Wilson, which in hindsight looks like a genius move. His great track record may not be enough to convince another NFL team to start fresh with a 72-year-old, however.
