Red McCombs pushing Mark Davis to bring Raiders to San Antonio
Former Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs is already pushing Mark Davis to try to bring the Oakland Raiders to San Antonio.
The 88-year-old San Antonio resident told ESPN San Antonio in a radio interview on Wednesday that he has already spoken to the Raiders owner about the possibility.
McCombs also said that San Antonio has “several locations” where a stadium could be built and claimed he already had “serious commitments” from twelve potential corporate sponsors.
“[Davis] was born and raised there, and he has a great feeling for the state of California,” McCombs said. “But it appears he is going to need to go somewhere.”
McCombs also offered to invest in the franchise if it would help make the move happen.
“We would be happy to be investors if that what he wants,” he said. “We have investors lined up if that what he wants. If he wants to keep it all to himself, that’s OK too.”
The Raiders’ maneuvering will be interesting in the aftermath of their failure to secure a move to Los Angeles. It had already been reported that Davis owns land in San Antonio that could be used for a stadium, and had some interest in taking the Raiders there.
