Robert Griffin III is reportedly getting set to begin a new job with a major television network.
Griffin has been hired by FOX Sports to serve as the network’s No. 2 college football analyst, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported on Thursday. The former quarterback is set to replace Brock Huard as the analyst on FOX’s second broadcast team. Huard recently announced that he was leaving FOX to coach his son’s high school football team.
The plan is for Griffin to team with play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti.
Griffin joined ESPN as a college football and NFL analyst in August 2021. He was let go in August 2024, but Marchand notes that ESPN has continued to pay Griffin and reserves the right to block him from joining another network. That is not expected to happen, however.
Since he was fired by ESPN, Griffin has hosted his “RG3 and the Ones” podcast and also had a big temporary NFL broadcast gig last season.
The 35-year-old Griffin drew significant interest from FOX prior to being hired by ESPN in 2021.
Griffin played eight seasons in the NFL between 2012 and 2020. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins with the second overall pick in 2012 and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie while playing under Mike Shanahan. The former Baylor star suffered a significant knee injury late in the year and was never the same after that. Griffin went on to spend time mostly as a backup with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.
RG3 will primarily be a game analyst for FOX, but he may make some appearances on studio shows as well.
