Dez Bryant, Cowboys reportedly on verge of contract extension

Dez Bryant

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has no intention of playing the 2015 season under a one-year contract, and he may not have to.

According to a report from Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Cowboys are “very optimistic” that a long-term extension between Bryant and the team is imminent. Fisher adds that the two sides are so comfortable with the way recent talks have gone that they have agreed to take a break for the holiday weekend, and a new deal could be announced as early as next week.

Bryant has until July 15th to either sign the franchise tender, which is worth $12.823 million for the upcoming season, or work out a long-term deal with the team. Recent reports have indicated that Bryant is willing to miss regular season games if the latter can’t be accomplished.

While Dez has made it very obvious that he is unhappy with his contract situation by sending tweets like this, he has not completely alienated the team. Bryant has even shown up to some organized training activities.

All of those rumors about a Bryant video that would make him look worse than Ray Rice seem to have fizzled out. Assuming there are no major off-field issues to worry about, you’d have to think the Cowboys will make Bryant a priority. At age 26, he’s already one of the top two or three wide receivers in football. Talent like that doesn’t come along very often.
