Tom Cable has quite the take on his team’s lackluster offense to start the year.
Speaking on Thursday, Cable, who is the Seattle Seahawks’ O-line coach and assistant head coach, blamed the Internet for the team’s poor offensive play.
“When your expectations [are] up here, you tend to listen to the noise,” said Cable, per local writer Ben Baldwin. “You tend to listen to — no disrespect to what you guys write — Twitter or whatever that stuff is and bloggers, and they start to press. They start to feel like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve gotta make this play.’
“My opinion is just stop pressing,” he went on. “Have a free mind, quiet mind, just play the game the way we always play it. But sometimes, expectations and all that noise can get to you. I just think that’s the truth. It’s not an excuse.”
Congrats guys, we did it.
All jokes aside, high expectations are par for the course for a Seattle team with Super Bowl hopes and Pro Bowlers galore on their roster. But they’ve opened the season 1-2 and are tied for 26th in the NFL with just 48 total points (per ESPN). That said, we’ve seen some crazy attempts over the years to scapegoat the sports media, but Cable’s claim may just be the peak of the mountain.
