Shannon Sharpe: Jason Whitlock mocking Colin Kaepernick is ‘unacceptable’

Jason Whitlock sparked some outrage on Tuesday for mocking Colin Kaepernick, and he even drew the ire of one of his co-workers.

Whitlock, a host for FS1, has long been outspoken against Kaepernick, even recently calling the free agent quarterback an “attention whore.”

On Tuesday, Whitlock tweeted an image that shows him with a white person dressed to mock Kaepernick. The person was wearing a Kaepernick jersey, afro wig, black glove and held up his fist like the Black Panther salute.

Great to have Kap stop by the studio today. pic.twitter.com/2UPuyCdWdK

The image was immediately criticized by many, including Whitlock’s FS1 co-worker, Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe called it “unacceptable.”

I'm going to address it with head of Fox sports/FS1 . This is UNACCEPTABLE https://t.co/YNzHmSoD5l

Sharpe wasn’t the only one upset with Whitlock seemingly making a mockery of Kaepernick. Many others on Twitter were incensed by Whitlock’s gag.

This is a complete and utter disgrace. https://t.co/04qW0VN7IB

Ralph Wiley would be mortified at what you've become. https://t.co/q7mgYjmx9l

You not just mocking Kaepernick with this, you mocking all the people who fought for blacks to even have a platform like the one you're on https://t.co/AZb6zvZxM6

— BlackSportsOnline (@BSO) September 6, 2017

I'm usually all about professionalism & uplifting my fellow black journalist… But Someone, anyone has to fade Whitlock on sight https://t.co/FDBqQjVk4P

This is the second time recently that Sharpe has come to Kaepernick’s defense in the face of criticism from a prominent black figure.

The unfortunate issue here is that FS1’s executives are so focused on manufacturing controversy using their “look at me” personalities that they’re probably so thrilled that Whitlock created a stir and got a response from another personality on the network.
