Steelers GM offers update on QB plans
The Pittsburgh Steelers have some big decisions to make at the most important position on the field this offseason, but they are adamant that they are content with what they currently have on the roster.
Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, who is set to retire following the NFL Draft, was asked on Monday about the team’s plans at quarterback going forward. While many believe Pittsburgh will draft a QB in the first round or try to acquire a veteran via trade, Colbert took the opportunity to praise Mason Rudolph. He also mentioned Dwayne Haskins.
#Steelers GM Kevin Colbert has no bombshells when it comes to the QB position. Says, “If we started a season today, Mason would be our starter.” Reminds us that Mason Rudolph is 5-4-1 in his first four years here in Pittsburgh and says he’s “excited to see what’s next” for him.

GM Kevin Colbert expects the #Steelers to have two QBs def under contract shortly, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, whom he expects to tender. But the team will def add two more QBs before camp, he says… w/out giving us any great hints at whether that’s via draft, trade or FA.

The Steelers are in an interesting spot heading into the 2022 season. They should be able to contend if they get solid QB play, as they went 9-7-1 this past season and reached the playoffs despite Ben Roethlisberger showing his age.
Giving up significant assets in a trade would be a stray from the norm for the Steelers, so drafting a quarterback might make more sense. One report claimed they have their eye on a specific QB in the first round.
We doubt the Steelers will trade multiple high draft picks for a player like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. They could, however, target a proven veteran who would come cheaper. Or, perhaps they truly are content with Rudolph. Sticking with him would allow them to spend money elsewhere.
