49ers’ asking price for Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly revealed

Jimmy Garoppolo this season fell just short of leading the San Francisco 49ers to their second Super Bowl in three years, but the team is still planning to move on from him. The Niners have likely already begun shopping Garoppolo in trade talks, but it does not sound like they are going to simply give the quarterback away.

According to Matt Lombardo of Fansided, the 49ers want either a second-round draft pick or a third-round pick and a player for Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has never put up flashy numbers, but he has been to a Super Bowl and two conference championships games. He has proven he can win games if the roster around him is good enough. That is what will make Jimmy G. appealing to other teams.

The problem for the Niners is that they don’t have much leverage. Teams know they are ready to turn their offense over to Trey Lance, who was the No. 3 overall pick in last year’s draft. It make take a bidding war between at least two teams for San Francisco to get proper market value in return for Garoppolo. The 49ers may also give Garoppolo a say in where he ends up, which could further complicate trade talks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been mentioned as a logical suitor for Garoppolo, though they have never liked trading high draft picks for players. At least one other team is reportedly planning to make a push to trade for a veteran QB.
