Terrell Suggs explains why he opted to report to Chiefs
Despite many rumors that he wouldn’t do so, Terrell Suggs did opt to report to the Kansas City Chiefs to finish out the 2019 season.
On Wednesday, Suggs explained that he didn’t really need a hard sell, adding that he just wanted assurances that he’d fit in with a new team after he felt he didn’t do so in Arizona.
“I was really uncertain about my future last week, but I talked to Coach and it was a brief conversation and I was like, ‘OK,'” Suggs said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN. “I asked Coach, ‘I just learned the hard way that a player like me just [doesn’t] fit in anywhere.’ He was like, ‘Trust me, you’ll fit in here.’
“It’s hard to turn down the reigning MVP [Patrick Mahomes] and a playoff team and just the exciting things they’re doing, this atmosphere.”
Suggs was waived by the Cardinals last week, and initially appeared unlikely to report to anyone but the Baltimore Ravens, his former team. That didn’t dissuade the Chiefs from putting in a claim on him anyway, and it’s clearly paid off for them, as they’ll get a quality pass rusher for the final two games of the regular season as well as the playoffs.
Suggs had 5.5 sacks in 13 games this season with the Cardinals.
