Trevor Lawrence is updating his status following his surgery last December.

The Jacksonville Jaguars star quarterback Lawrence spoke with reporters on Wednesday. During the media session, Lawrence revealed that he expects to be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 season (but did note that he will be limited during OTAs).

“I’m very optimistic I’ll be perfectly good for the season,” he said, per Pro Football Talk. “But as far as right now, I think just kind of pacing ourselves as OTAs go and working myself up to where I’m in shape as far as throwing. Just the amount of throws might be a little lighter to start and work our way up, just until I get really fully back.

“But I imagine that and then maybe just some handoff stuff will be a little limited,” added Lawrence. “But besides that, I think that won’t last too long. [I’m] kind of progressing and working my way up further distance, more throws. Just trying to be smart and not just jump off into the deep end right away, just trying to work up to it.”

The 25-year-old Lawrence is coming off an injury-riddled 2024 campaign in which he played in a career-low 10 games. Lawrence suffered an AC joint sprain in his left (non-throwing) shoulder during Week 9, and then upon his return in Week 13, was concussed on a brutal hit by Houston’s Azeez Al-Shaair (video here). The former Pro Bowl QB did not appear in another game after that and then decided earlier this offseason to get surgery on the nagging shoulder issue.

In 2025, Lawrence will have a new head coach to work with in Liam Coen as well as a few new (though underwhelming) weapons to throw to in Dyami Brown and Louis Rees-Zammit. With still another five months to go before the 2025 season even begins, Lawrence apparently expects to be an all-systems-go in time for Week 1.
