Twitter reacts to Matt Patricia looking lost in NFL head coaching debut

Matt Patricia

Matt Patricia’s NFL head coaching debut went about as poorly as possible.

Though he was billed as a defensive specialist, his Detroit Lions got blitzed by the New York Jets on Monday night. The game got away from them during a 31-point third quarter outburst from the Jets.

Nothing seemed to go right for the Lions, while many noted how lost Patricia looked on the sidelines. Many also wondered how much he missed the New England Patriots, for whom he previously served as defensive coordinator.

Here are some of the reactions:

Just so I’m clear: Matt Patricia was a “defensive” coordinator, right? #Lions

Yep, that’s me, Matt Patricia. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation… pic.twitter.com/sP02jQc5do

Jim Caldwell was fired after back-to-back 9-7 seasons. Anyone think Matt Patricia is winning nine games this year?

Matt Patricia: I left the Patriots for this?

Imagine how bad this would be for the Lions if Matt Patricia wasn’t a defensive genius.

Matt Patricia right now is looking through his options to see if he can blame Belichick and Brady for this one as wellpic.twitter.com/NbCRvNx5Ds

There's a 10% chance Patricia gets fired in the 4th quarter pic.twitter.com/eIocfmpRpG

Normally we’d tell Lions fans not to worry and that it will get better, but we can’t make that promise. Patricia has his work cut out for him when it comes to turning things around.
