Daniel Jones will get to be a part of another NFC playoff run.
The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that they have signed the veteran quarterback Jones to their 53-man roster. Minnesota is waiving fellow QB Brett Rypien in a corresponding move.
Jones, the former No. 6 overall pick by the New York Giants, was released by New York in late November after a rocky five-and-a-half-year tenure and signed to the practice squad of the Vikings days later. He failed to make it to Minnesota’s active roster during the regular season but has now managed to do so ahead of the Vikings’ playoff opener against the Los Angeles Rams next Monday.

The 26-year-old Jones won’t be anything more than an emergency QB3 for Minnesota behind starter Sam Darnold and backup Nick Mullens. But he does have one playoff win under his belt from a few years ago (ironically against the Vikings), which may be why Minnesota wants to have Jones around as an insurance plan.
