Many fans were unhappy with the television coverage of the 2025 Ryder Cup on Friday, and there was one complaint that seemed to keep coming up.
There were too many commercials.
USA Network carried the opening round of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. There were four groups that played the foursomes matches on Friday morning and four more that competed in four-ball matches during the afternoon. With only 16 golfers on the course at a time, there are a lot more breaks in the action than a typical tournament.
The setup leaves plenty of room for advertising breaks. USA Network took full advantage of that, and fans were quite frustrated.
I don’t think @USANetwork is running enough commercials so far in the Ryder Cup. pic.twitter.com/PTRTKiTNTH

Listen I get you gotta pay the bills and all but it’s like we are watching commercials with a side of Ryder Cup. This is just insane!

Welcome to @USANetwork coverage of commercials with limited breaks of Ryder Cup action. This is absolutely terrible. pic.twitter.com/HQDCttHXXm

NBC/USA used plenty of “playing through” coverage, which is when the live action is shown alongside a commercial. But even when the network does that, the audio goes to the commercial and fans still miss the roars from the gallery and dramatic reactions that make the Ryder Cup what it is.
There were also some technical difficulties at the start of Friday’s coverage, which only added to the frustration among viewers.
