Lou Holtz getting his own golf radio show
Lou Holtz mutually agreed to part ways with ESPN a few months ago, and the former Notre Dame and South Carolina coach has already landed a new gig.
It just might not be what you envisioned.
Holtz is set to begin hosting a golf show on SiriusXM’s PGA Tour Radio beginning Sept. 1. It is appropriately named “Holtz in One.” But don’t worry, Holtz fans will still get their college football fix as he is also hosting a college football show called “The Playbook” on SiriusXM College Sports Nation every Friday beginning Aug. 28. He’ll also co-host the “SiriusXM College Football Tailgate Show” on Saturdays.
As for the golf thing, Holtz is actually a member at Augusta National. He began coaching the golf team at William & Mary in 1961 to make some extra money while he was also working as an assistant football coach.
“Coach Holtz is known for his extraordinary career as a National Championship-winning football coach, but not as many people know of his level of devotion to the game of golf,” SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein said in a news release. “On SiriusXM he’ll have two forums that allow him to talk in-depth and at length about both sports, to interact with and inspire listeners across the country, and to share insight and knowledge from decades of experiences on the football field and the golf course.”
Holtz explained in a 2009 Golf Digest interview that he “didn’t even know how to keep score” when he began coaching golf at William & Mary. Apparently the 78-year-old has come a long way.
If you’re going to miss Holtz spewing out undecipherable gibberish on ESPN every weekend, you should probably get yourself a SiriusXM Radio subscription.
