CBS is placing Tony Romo on leave following his arrest for driving under the influence.
The network announced Friday that Romo has been put on leave from his role as the network’s top NFL analyst “until further notice.” JJ Watt has been promoted to the lead analyst role in his place for the time being.

It is obviously unclear what CBS’ plans for Romo are or whether they plan to reinstate him prior to the start of the regular season. The network remained silent following his initial arrest, but may have been nudged to do something with the release of rather embarrassing body cam footage of the former quarterback’s arrest.
Romo was arrested overnight Thursday in Milwaukee County, Wisc. for operating a vehicle under the influence. He was initially uncooperative with police and performed poorly in field sobriety tests.
Watt is just coming off his first season broadcasting games for CBS as a part of their No. 2 announcing team. He received positive reviews initially and this represents something of a meteoric rise for him, even if it proves temporary.
Romo still has four seasons remaining on the 10-year, $180 million contract he signed with CBS in 2020.
