‘Sandlot’ star Tom Guiry arrested for allegedly headbutting a police officer

Tom-Guiry-mugshot

You’re killin’ me, Smalls! Those of you who grew up in the 1980s and ’90s will probably cringe when you hear that Tom Guiry, the actor who played “Smalls” in the epic baseball movie “The Sandlot,” was reportedly arrested at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston over the weekend. The alleged details do not sound characteristic of the young kid we knew who had never heard of Babe Ruth.

Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that Guiry was told by a United Airlines employee that he was too drunk to board his flight. The employee then phoned airport security, who told Guiry that he could either be taken into protective custody or arrested for public intoxication. It doesn’t sound like he considered either to be a viable option.

Guiry allegedly became belligerent and threatened the officer before attempting to kick him in the face and headbutting him. He was arrested and charged with felony assault on a police officer. Guiry posted $5,000 bail and was released.

We obviously know Guiry is a pretty tough guy based on his ability to get the best of “The Beast,” but he shouldn’t have attempted to use his scrappiness on a police officer. That mugshot is incredibly disturbing. This is a tough day for fans of “The Sandlot.”

I wonder if this would affect the late Roger Ebert’s review of the classic movie.
