The Anaheim Ducks have finally broken their Game 7 curse.

After losing four straight Game 7s at home in the playoffs, the Ducks prevailed against the Edmonton Oilers, winning 2-1. They will advance to the Western Conference Finals to take on the Nashville Predators.

This was a big deal for the team.

The Ducks had lost in the Game 7s in each of the previous four seasons. They were defeated twice in the first round, once in the second, and another in the conference final against the Blackhawks in 2015.

Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle noted after the game that the Game 7 curse was more of a media talking point than it was something the team discussed. He also pointed out that many of the players weren’t even around for many of the blown games. But it’s still nice to break a curse like that when it’s hanging over your head.
